This summer, I had the opportunity to travel to Tokyo, Japan as part of Princeton’s joint program with the University of Tokyo called Tokyo: Representations and Reality. I initially heard of this program through a SIFP email that was sent out.
This summer I endeavored on an independent project through funding from the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Language and Culture. The research proposal I presented indicated that I was looking to delve deeper into this idea of alterity or otherness which I termed “El Otro”.
After moving to the United States from Colombia when I was 7 years old, I never left the US again. That is, not until this summer. With my Colombian origins came a rich cultural background and the Spanish language, two qualities that have shaped my life.
