Ava Shirazi is a fellow at the Princeton Society of Fellows and a lecturer in Classics and Humanistic Studies. She works broadly on the ancient world and especially topics around aesthetics (what is beauty? what is art)– At the moment, Ava’s working on a book on ancient mirrors. She was born and raised in Tehran, Iran before immigrating to Toronto, Canada as an adolescent. She then moved to California to complete her PhD at Stanford University. Outside of the classroom, Ava’s been active in theater (directing, producing and stage managing various ancient and modern dramas) as well as writing for film.
